Question about crochet?

I'm trying to learn how to crochet , and I kind of have making chains down , but I'm having some trouble with it. My chains keep getting to tight , I'm using a size J , how do I make it so they don't become so tight. Also I'm having trouble with tension , what's the best method to use?
