Spiritually speaking, what is your impression of these statements?

I feel sorry for all those in Malaysia who have suffered because of this situation. But, even though it was depressing for the surgeon to decide who lived and who died, all those he operated on would have died without him. So, in the end, he didn't decide who died, only those who would live, if that makes any sense.
